Many consider Jennifer Harman the best female poker player in the world. More people, however, simply say that she is one of the world's best poker players. She was born in 1964 in the State of Nevada in Reno and since the age of 8 she was watching her poker-playing father with great interest. Later, when his father was playing at home, he has also turned to her for advice. When she was too young, she used fake identities for playing in poker rooms and then she started her professional career in the mid-80s, after turning 21.
Meanwhile, she earned a degree in biology at the University of Nevada but she never started to build a career because she could live off of her poker winnings very well. This led to serious disagreements between her and her father and for a while they fell out. Over time, however, she convinced her father that poker is actually nothing more than a game, using skills, and it is possible to live from it permanently. Their relationship was restored and Jennifer got her family back.
The greatest pleasure for her is participating in high-stakes cash games and most of the time, she sits down to play in the Bellagio with Johnny Chan, Phil Ivey or the legendary Doyle Brunson. Usually, she plays there four nights a week. Her husband, Marco Traniello is also a professional poker player. She taught him how to play poker.
Harman has been struggling with serious health problems since childhood. When she was young, she underwent kidney transplantation and in 2004, she needed another transplant. She didn’t play in 2004 due to healing. Her return was immediately sealed by a WPT victory. As ambassador for organ transplantation, she established the CODA (Creating Organ Donors Awareness) Foundation.
Her biggest breakthrough in tournament poker came in the late 90's. She had her first major success in the poker world championship in 1996 when she finished in sixth place. Then four years passed before she got her first WSOP bracelet. The interesting thing is that she had never played 2-7 triple draw before, she just received a short briefing of the rules shortly before the event from Daniel Negreanu. Harman sat at the final table of the WSOP five times and won a total of two golden bracelets, the second in 2002 in Limit Hold'em game.
In Dolyle Brunson’s Poker Bible, Super / System 2, she wrote the chapter on Limit Hold’em. She often participates in television poker shows, in Game Show Network’s "High Stakes Poker" and in "Poker After Dark" on NBC.
She is close friends with Daniel Negreanu, and earlier she was dating Howard Lederer and Todd Brunson.
In online games, one can meet her as "Jennifer Harman". She lives in Las Vegas with her husband, twin children and four dogs. In tournaments, she has won a total of about 2 million dollars. Her future plans are further improvements of her skills and participation in more tournaments.
