Dolyle Brunson was born in 1933 in Texas, he’s been a professional player for more than 50 years.

He looks like more of an old grandpa or one of the rich figures in the Dallas TV series, but Dolyle Brunson is not to be confused with anyone else as he is a living legend, one of the most successful poker players of all time. He started playing in small Texas towns then he got a number of World Championship (WSOP) titles. And we should not forget about those countless events he attended.

Most people know him by name, but many remember him as a promising basketball player. He grew up in Longworth, Texas, and he was picked by the Minneapolis Lakers. But a knee injury prevented his pro career. Then he began his studies at the Simmons University in Abilene. Since he still had to pay the bills, he started playing poker, and he continued to refine his abilities. After graduation, he started working but soon quit after it became clear that poker skills put more money into his pocket.

In the 60s, he moved to Texas where he started playing high-stakes cash games. He attended and excelled in many tournaments, but he earned his first world championship title only in 1976. In the subsequent year, he won the World Series of Poker again with the same 10-2 hand. This combination was later named "Doyle Brunson". Since then he won a total of ten WSOP bracelets and made a total of 3.6 million dollars. Besides tournaments, he is very successful at high-stakes cash games ($ 4,000 / $ 8,000) as well.

Doyle is one of those 22 players, who were elected to the Poker Hall of Fame, and he was one of the first three who was awarded as WPT Walk of Fame.

In 1978, Brunson published the all-time most popular poker bible, Super / System, which contains full instructions on Texas Hold'em and other poker games. Many people see this as the most important poker book that has to be read by every serious poker players. The book has since been amended several times and later, Super / System 2 was also released.

After publishing the instant classic Super / System, many professional poker players were outraged that Brunson gave out  the best-kept secrets of the game. While poker became much more difficult over the years, it attracted a growing interest and more and more players wanted to play higher stakes. Super / System started a new wave of strategic books and the game has gained huge public interest.

In the 80’s, Brunson became just as famous at the golf courses as he was at the poker tables. Played golf for astronomical sums, and put huge stakes on sports betting. He often had five-figure bets for a single sporting event.

Although he is going to be 80 soon, Doyle Brunson still plays poker on the highest possible standard and shows no signs that would be preparing to retire. If you want to play against him, you should play in the world's most expensive cash games or tournaments.
